On Monday we asked you the following questions for a chance to win an I AM GREEN shirt:
1. What is the name of the business with the first certified organic rooftop farm in the United States?
2. In what year did the organic rooftop farm become certified?
3. Have you ever been there? (not a trick question, just curious)
The Answers:
1. Uncommon Ground, in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago, IL.
2. Their rooftop became the first certified organic rooftop farm in October, 2008.
3. If you have not been there you should stop what you are doing and go!
WINNER: Holly Clancy! Congratulations! And thanks to everyone who participated.
Uncommon Ground is located at 1401 W. Devon Ave., Chicago. They have a small parking lot and a bike rack.
Owner Michael Cameron has created more than a restaraunt, he has created a community. This restaraunt not only turns local and organic food into culinary masterpieces, it features local musicians and artists. On most Thursday nights they host Green Sessions, a networking experience that brings together local organizations and community members.
April 9th, Uncommon Ground will host a Green Session where the Edgewater community will discuss becoming the first LEED certified neighborhood! How cool is that?! You can also visit Uncommon Ground at Loyola University (Lake Shore Campus) April 25th as they celebrate Earth Day.
One of my favorite things at Uncommon Ground is the Treetini, a martini that becomes a tree! Well, everytime you buy one, Uncommon Ground commits to purchasing a tree. Get a designated driver or call a taxi and plant some trees!
But really, you should just stop by and check out this cool, green, local hangout. You'll love it.
